Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like...
– Nelson Mandela (via inthesummerof91)
So many posts are motivated by hatred. Hating the oppressors/oppressed gets us nowhere. The idea of smacking somebody because they are wrong or ignorant… is anti-climactic.

– Murry Bookchin, quoting Elise Boulding in The Ecology of Freedom.
In one paragraph, they leave the entire field of social biology in ruins… for even if Humans have some natural imperative to act like our closest relative, the justification for patriarchy and hierarchy rest on monumental ignorance...

*An excellent article, in case you haven’t seen it yet, and these excerts are my favorite key points.*
Let’s get this out of the way: Sweden does not have a “broken condom” law. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was not arrested because his contraception failed mid-coitus. Nor is he charged with “sex by surprise.”
Everyone from Fox News’s Glenn Beck to...

– - Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (via civillyunioned)
I get the meaning, and it’s good. … I can’t help but feel there is something disturbingly wrong with this comment. Without discrimination, there would be no battlefield. “Love is not possible where...

I voted to keep our taxes. I believe in taxes. Taxes pay for our community. (Among other things like occupations, war, our faulty prison system etc. that I hate and hope to help change.) If you don’t like what our taxes our being used for, do something about it. But please don’t freak out and cry ‘fear government control’, when you all you want is more money for...

If people actually enjoy that, you’re honestly beyond fucked up. To you, it may not seem like a significant life, but it is. I don’t understand cruelty for entertainment, ever. It’s not funny if you see someone fall down stairs, it’s not funny if you see an animal get hit by a car, it’s not funny if you see someone get beaten up, it’s not funny if you physically harm someone...
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on tumblr. Things have changed a bit, so If I unfollow you becuase you post stuff I don’t like… deal with it. I’m doing what’s good for me. This isn’t really how I wanted to start my coming back post, but the one I wanted is at home. I don’t have much internet access, so things might be scattered. Hopefully...

On a personal note - My family is now completly gluten-free. I suspect this might be a tad difficult for me. Already I’m noticing the adverse side effects of eating all gluten-free and then eating outside the house where I usually eat food with gluten. Yeah, my body isn’t liking this half/half crap. Mainly because I’ll go awhile without eating gluten, and my body will have...
I want to put a thanks out there for all my new followers. I haven’t been on the computer much the past couple months, some of you might have noticed the lack of anything new. Just a brief note on what I’ve been doing… Nothing. Well, I had my interview for the job I hope to be getting soon. I have gotten into a writing craze, meaning that I really want to write but am...

I write like Leo Tolstoy →
I have no words… Maybe I should go read one of his books. Didn’t he write Anna Karenina? Well, Greta Garbo played her, and she jumps in front of a train at the end and seriously traumatizes me everytime I see it.

Feminism
I feel like I can relate to Christians. Anyone can be one, there are several specific types, and each person has different ideas. … And in the same way, I’m under the impression that not too many people actually know what they’re talking about beyond their own impressions and experiences. Some people seem satisfied with keeping themselves in a box of their own, whether or not...
Well damn, am I wrong? Are most feminists transphobic?
Don’t get me wrong, anger has it’s place. It’s important to be angry, I would feel positive saying nothing would ever get done if there wasn’t anger. Continual sarcasm though, I don’t find much use for. If anything it turns me away and invalidates everything that was just said.
Even if you have good vision, sometimes hatred and animosity and inability to listen to anybody other than yourself, is kinda blinding. I’m not going to keep on an on reiterating my point if the person is never going to understand, because they keep assuming that I’m coming from a different place than they are. Talking with people you don’t know anything about is not a good...
Sometimes, people assume I’m trans, but other times… apparently not.
Apparently I’m privileged more somehow because I identify as genderqueer vs trans… or maybe it was because I’m a feminist that I’m privileged.
I changed my mind, I never feel good about being snarky.

Oh, I guess we’re back to generalizing feminists… thanks. Of all the feminists on tumblr I don’t think very many of them actually believe any of this. I sure don’t. Not to mention all the feminists in my life. Sure they’re out there, but please don’t act like we all are.

Rape as a Weapon of War in the Congo Becomes Rape...
probeauty:
There’s been a lot written about the use of rape as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Now, the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative has found a 17-fold increase in the number of civilian rapes. Rape as war has become rape as culture. Nicholas Kristoff has written about this in Liberia, and now it’s happening in the Congo.
Researchers surveyed over 4,000 women who...

"The Expendables": All-starsterone cast--and look,...
imaginenoheaven:
MILD SPOILERS—although really you wouldn’t be missing much.
There is a scene in The Expendables in which a good guy is hanging off a sea plane, dangling dangerously as it makes its getaway from a dockful of bad guys shooting at them. We can hear the bullets whiz by, but we don’t hear any of them hitting the metal of the plane, and of course none hits the dude—about fifty...

Okay, movies are just for fun, they never teach...
“Disney films, and to a lesser extent other animated films, have become the staple of movie fare for children, an institution we bring them up in and use to teach values. One only need to look as far as books such as The Family New Media Guide and The Movie Mom’s Guide to Family Movies to see the recommendation of Disney films for value lessons. The former title even goes on to point...
